Carmel Vacation

So, the human threw me and her Mom into the car and took us on up to the Monterey Peninsula. Stuck in a crate in the backseat, I can't say the scenery was all that spectacular, except on the few occasions when I was let out to stretch my little legs and pee. We finally got up there Wed. night. Lawsy, you wanna talk about stairs? Two short flights at the front, and one long flight at the back. We were up on the 2nd floor, ya see. So, twice to thrice times daily trips up and down stairs on top of walking all over Carmel, Monterey, Pacific Grove and Salinas, and I think I dropped a few pounds! Still, there were admiring humans everywhere, big and small, giving me pets and telling me how beautiful I was. Made it home safe and sound Sunday night. I'm recuperating nicely. Enjoy the pics!

I'm so glad I got the human to plant morning glories. They're so pretty and cheerful. Sometimes they're more pink in color, other times more blue, but this one is a dead on purple that just blows my fluff away! And purple IS my fave color, after all...

The human is having a coniption because it's still pretty warm out these days. So what? Being a mostly black dog, I love the heat! And you know what'll happen once it's cool all the time. Then she'll complain about it being too cool and not having a bunch of blooming flowers. I really love the blue pimpernels ya see in the picture below, along with the lavender pink pincushion flowers (scabiosa) that grow up through the pimpernels. Aren't they pretty?

Sometimes I just don't know my own strength! One of those pesky hummers came towards my back sliding glass door, so as is my usual custom, I flung myself at it. Thing is, the glass slider was open and it was just the screen door there, which is kinda flimsy if you ask me, and when my big fluffy self hit that screen, WHOA! Knocked the dang thing right off the track. Human got all hot and bothered and had to bang at it for quite awhile before it got back on track. Bet that hummer doesn't come around for awhile, tee hee hee...

So, there I was, perfectly positioned for food shrapnel. Sure enough, the human suddenly dropped a piece of cracker she was snacking on. Butt even my lightening reflexes were no match for the Brownie who lives under the sofa. I tried to get after him, but he finally ran into the spare room and snarfed down the rest of the cracker before I could lay a paw on him. Bad enough about the food, but then he has to look so smug about it... I was out perusing the garden this afternoon and I think I've finally discovered what's missing here. We need a water pond! Thing is, it's gotta be small. The human would have a heart attack trying to make one too big. I believe you can make water ponds in something as small as a half barrel. That might be the way to go. And it would be nice to have at least one pretty water lily, and some papyrus and horsetails and maybe even some gold fish! Now to get the human thinking in the same direction. Gotta commence the corgi mind meld...

Welp, the human is fit to be tied. Or is it that she's pitched a fit and fallen in? Whatever, she's NOT happy. We had hail, snow and frost last night. The garden has been hit pretty hard, but only time will tell if the damage is permanent. Here's a picture of the borage in the herb bed all knocked down. It was blooming prettily yesterday.

Welp, we may finally be moving back into warmer weather this coming week. But it's the weekends when I can get the human to do the most work, so I need the good weather then! We've got some pretty pink and yellow tulips in vases inside, which I've been enjoying. We've got even more getting ready to bloom in the bulb bed, which I'm helpfully posing in front of above. Oh, and we had a swallowtail butterfly visiting for a brief 24 hrs. A picture of that is on the Herbal Corgi blog. I figure it was resting on its migratory journey, or maybe even laying eggs (it was resting in our big buddleia, butterfly bush).

Paris Lynn, Kallista Tempt Me with Kisses, CGC, passed away quietly at her home in Kingsport, TN late this morning. Daughter of the illustrious Panda Bear and Danny, Hum'nbird Valedictorian, she's a great aunt of yerstrulyfluffy, perhaps once or twice removed. She leaves children, grandchildren and hoomans to mourn her passing, but also leaves wonderful treasured memories because she was so greatly loved by all who knew her. I know she'll be reunited at the Rainbow Bridge with all the loved ones who've already passed. We'll miss you, Paris Lynn.

Bulbs a Poppin!

Welp, I must say I'm quite pleased about all the bulbs that are popping up. We've got hyacinths and crocus blooming, and even the tulip foliage is up. Thing is though, we're supposed to have a cold front coming in around the middle of the week. I just hope my pretty little bulbs don't freeze! And just in case you're wondering, yes, I supervised all the planting that happened in this flower bed. I leave nothing to chance.

Welp, firstly, I had to got to the Vet. And I knew that's where we were going cuz the human said nothing about going to Grammie's when we got in the car. Dang, I hate getting that thermometer shoved up my bum, it's just so not nice! Then I get the shot. I keep hoping the Vet will miss, on account of all my glorious fluff, butt he always manages to get me. Sheesh! So then the human attempted to make it up to me by taking me to Petco to get more of my Wellness Core food. The place was jam packed full of poor orphans waiting to be adopted, so I wasn't crazy about being there. Then we went to the Furry Faces Boutique in town. My human's boss gave her a gift certificate for Christmas and she finally got around to spending it. I got a new food dish, new water dish and even another new extra water dish for the bedroom (for those late night slurps). In addition, I got a new purple tuff toy. We'll see how well I can whip it around and stuff. Anyway, here's pictures of all my new loot. Almost worth the shot and the thing up my bum!

So, I've been noticing how the human has been slacking off on the yard work. I got her out there today to hack away at the kudzu (bower vine) that grows over the cement wall at the back. Thirty feet of the stuff! She did a fair job, though not as neat and tidy as I'd like. Still, she's cheap labor so whaddya gonna do?

I'll admit I started to get quite concerned about the pile of vegetative refuse growing by the moment. That is, until the local hummer showed up and started buzzing me again. That dang little bugger!

So, the hooman has decided to take up painting. After dark, she set up a little makeshift studio on the coffee table so she could watch telly whilst mooshing paint about on the practice sheets.

It's been pretty frigid here lately, which is unusual for the blast furnace that IS the Inland Empire. We had a killing frost last night, and the human had to cover delicate planties outside with old sheets. Of course, I have a glorious fur coat. And PETA can't even come after me for it, LOL! Welsh corgis have double coats, butt I'm a fluff, so I've got a triple coat, and ain't I cute in my gray & pink scarf?

My Butt Got Hijacked!

The human decided I was in need of a trim, sigh. So, once again, I got totally hijacked. My poor little feeties got trimmed, and then it was time for my butt. Oh, the humiliation! My long, luxurious butt fur has now been hacked within a literal inch!

Okay, I was just shy of three months of age in this picture. The human had given me a treatie to work on, so I went along with it. Butt, I'm grown up now, and I will NOT wear the dang hat again...

So, the human puts the silly hat on Oscar, who absolutely hates it and begs me to take it off him, which I helpfully agree to do. I can't reach the fake corgi up on the high shelf though, dang it.

See the human thinks this is funny. I was outside in the back garden sussing things out, the way you do, when the neighbor kids decided to come out into their yard next door and were screaming and banging stuff. Welp, I just can't concentrate with that much noise going on, so I came to the screen door and waited for the human to open it for me (hellooo, no oppposable thumbs!). Instead, she takes pictures. So, what you see here is me going:

"the kids are loud, let me in"
"I mean it, I wanna come in now!"
"hey, you ARE gonna let me in, right?"

So, I just discovered the human will attempt a pumpkin cheesecake for Thanksgiving. Should be interesting, as her baking endeavors don't always come out well. Couldn't give a rip snitty myself, as I'm not fond of sweets. Give me MEAT, and I'm happy. Which is why I've been working on my table-floor spatial strategies for the coming holiday. It's a corgi's job to be there when and where it counts.

Notice how one of my ears is back slightly (my left, your right)? Welp there's a good reason for that. I'm feeling faintly alarmed here. I don't see that the human has done ANYTHING to get ready for Thanksgiving yet. Now, we normally have our TG celebration at my Grammie's, tis true, but my human handles at least one component of the feast, and I don't even hear anything about it yet. I'm getting worried...
